American Music Awards

American Music Awards

In 1973 Dick Clark created the American Music Awards as an alternative to the Grammy Awards. All genres of music are honored at the AMA. This year marked the 33rd annual award ceremony. It was held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California.

Winners included: Will Smith, Gwen Stefani, Black Eyed Peas, R. Kelly, Miriah Carey, and Destiny's Child.
Click Here for the complete list of winners. The show was hosted by Cedric the Entertainer and there were many GREAT performances.

I didn't see the whole show, but I catch some of it. Cyndi Lauper and Sarah McLachlan did an awesome job singing together and got a standing ovation from the huge crowd! I also saw my man Santana perform with Los Lonely Boys, another outstanding live performance.

One thing that was missing from this year's show were many of the winners! I think it is just WRONG and very disrespectful that so many winners did not show up to accept their awards. Among the no shows were R. Kelly, Michelle Williams and Beyonce Knowles, Green Day, Kelly Clarkson, Black Eyed Peas, Eminem and 50 Cent. I know all these folks have busy schedules, but if you are nominated for a prestigious award you should adjust your schedule to show up at the ceremony! Shame on these no shows!
