Can a Woman be President of United States?

Tonight, ABC premiers "Commander in Chief", with Geena Davis playing the President of the United States. My question is this; what are the chances of a woman becoming the President of the United States in real life? Are we ready for that, who would it be? Perhaps Hillary Clinton or Condoleezza Rice?

This post should get a ton of comments. Let me have it, what do you think?

I think it will happen eventually.

A friend suggested the other day that he feels the media is putting this show out there as an effort to familiarize Americans with the idea of a Woman President - quite possibly in an effort to get Hillary elected in 2008.

That may be. However, I feel Hillary is not the right choice.. and just as the show sets it up -- I think we need to elect a female VP first. Now the scary part... might the dems set Hillary up in a VP with a male running for Prez ... and then kill him off just to make Hil president?
A bit preposterous I know - but the way the world is turning - I wouldn't rule it out!

It will happen but I think that it should have happened already. In the 80s Great Britain had a female Prime Minister, the second most powerful nation in the world has already had a female head of state and then there is us. I sure hope it isnt Hillary either nor do I wish to have Condi.

I doubt it will happen in my lifetime and if it does, it will definately not be a democrat, especially Clinton.

I have no problem with the concept of a woman's butt filling the big chair in the Oval Office, or with a "First Man", there are a few women I can think of who I'd vote for in a second.

The only thing that gives me any pause with "Commander In Chief" is trying to picture "Valerie" from "Earth Girls Are Easy" and "Morgan" from "Cutthroat Island" as Pres.

What next, "Janet" from "Rocky Horror Picture Show" as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court? ;~D

I would LOVE to see a female Prime Minister (I'm from Australia) but I don't think its going to happen for a long time. At the moment all females in power get compared to Margaret Thatcher.

The first step to females taking the top job is getting more women in the government.
